HOT WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CAMP

Camp on Our Wedding Anniversary?

Below is a snippet from our previous camp post.

We watch the sunset, watch the moon rise, and lay in the truck gazing at stars.  We still need food to stay in the dunes so we return home across the moonlit desert.  The food is waiting for us in the refrigerator, packed and ready to go. We sleep a few hours and head back in the morning.”

We packed the truck with food, and headed back to wilderness camp.

The road to Cadiz is about eighty-five miles from Two Crows and the dunes are another forty miles across dirt.  The day was cooler, about 115º;  a slight breeze kept it comfortable as long as we took it easy and drank water.

The “dune road” faded but we went a little further, chickened out, backtracked, and hiked to a dune.

but the road continued.

The Arizona and California Railroad parallels the road to Cadiz on its way to Phoenix. We camped near the tracks near an old lime-kiln in Chubbuck and were gone before another train passed.

Dinner was easy, it was already cooked.  It would have been better warm but we didn’t bring a pan.  The Biotite Campstove made s’mores happen and a tripod  helped with moon shots between the lime kilns and shadows cast in the desert. It was a perfect night, we slept on our sleeping bags in the truck’s bed.

Heat-wave Holiday: Day 3

Breakfast was hot coffee and home-baked cake. We made a quick stop in Miligan and continued to Yucca Valley.  The road home seemed shorter…as it always does.
